THE HONEYMOONERS TICKET

Remember Ralph Kramden -- fat guy with a million cockamamie ideas who regarded himself as an underappreciated genius?

Well, Kramden's political equivalent now has his own Ed Norton:

EXCLUSIVE: Gingrich-Perry Pre-Convention Ticket in the Works

Sources close to the Gingrich campaign say preliminary "what-if" conversations are underway that could lead to a Gingrich-Perry ticket being announced prior to the Republican National Convention at the end of August.

Gingrich insiders hope forming a predetermined ticket with [Rick] Perry will unite the evangelical, Tea Party and very conservative voters that make up the core of the GOP....

A dimwit who'll stand by as the portly self-mythologizer holds forth endlessly about his own brilliance, and about how his latest scheme is the one that's really going to reveal to the world the extent of his brilliance? It's classic American television!

And Kramden and Gingrich both like to say, "To the moon!"

****

Seriously, though: If you're Newt Gingrich and it's a couple of days before the primary in Alabama and Mississippi, do you really want to float rumors of a ticket that will unite you with a guy the base regards as a squish on immigration, for his stance on tuition breaks for children of undocumented immigrants? Alabama, which has an immigration law that's tougher than Arizona's, and Mississippi, where the governor supports a bill modeled on Alabama's -- both of which have provisions forcing the children of the undocumented out of school?

There's not much time to make it, but it's the easiest attack ad in the world: run the headline suggesting a Gingrich-Perry ticket, then run the debate clip of Perry defending his immigration stance. End of Gingrich in the Deep South.

What a better match for a Republican intellectual than Governor Oops!

They'd win handily among the demographic that votes single-issue about hair.

My Governor-for-Life continues to swell my breast with pride, this time with frankly fawning comments about The Great Newt considering his humble self for the #2 slot on a ticket that'll never exist. I swear, Perry would gag a maggot.
