(updated)
The Huffington Post has excerpts of Paul Ryan's VP acceptance speech. A couple of lines:
We won't replace our founding principles...we will reapply them!Shorter Paul Ryan: Barack Obama is not an American. America under Barack Obama is not a free country. And so it begins with the new guy.
We will honor you, our fellow citizens, by giving you the right and opportunity to make the choice:
What kind of country do we want to have?
What kind of people do we want to be?
****
UPDATE: I see from Charlie Pierce that that second line is a favorite of Ryan's, a rehash of a whiny complaint about President Obama uttered back in April, when Obama said mean things about him:
He was supposed to be bigger than this. We need solutions, not excuses. We need a president who takes the lead in not one that spreads the blame. We need someone who appeals to our dreams and aspirations, not to our fears and anxieties. We as Americans deserved to choose what kind of country we want and what kind of people we want to be.That last sentence got repeated in his speech today. I don't know what the hell it has to do with all the other complaints, except that maybe criticizing Paul Ryan = fascism for all Americans.
