Leon Holmes was confirmed yestrerday as a federal judge. I wrote yesterday about phony charges of anti-Catholic bias that were being leveled at his opponents (and alleged opponents -- Arlen Specter was targeted, but ultimately voted in Holmes's favor), but I should have mentioned this about Holmes:

Holmes dismissed concerns that a constitutional amendment banning abortion would not allow the procedure in cases of rape by saying that "the concern for rape victims is a red herring because conceptions from rape occur with approximately the same frequency as snowfall in Miami."

Unbelievable. And I don't care if he said this many years ago and later repudiated it. Do we want a federal judge who as an adult was as ignorant about sex as the typical thirteen-year-old?
