MUTUAL MESSAGE FAIL

I was saying in the previous post that the messages of the Obama and Romney campaigns aren't getting through, and, well, here's more evidence, from the new Fox poll:

As I've said on a number of occasions, Fox polls seem surprisingly credible to me -- their results aren't skewed to the right, like Rasmussen results; in this poll, Obama is up by 4, which is better than Obama's doing in the Times/CBS and NPR polls. Fox does like to throw in push-poll-style questions (an example in this poll: "What about most Americans -- do you think they would prefer working at a job for a paycheck or not working and getting the same pay from the government?"). But apart from that, in these polls Fox seems to want the chips to fall where they may, even if the results don't match Fox propaganda -- as you can see, the numbers above suggest that Obama is failing to turn Romney into Gordon Gekko, but Romney is failing to turn Obama into Karl Marx.

Which is more or less what today's other national polls are showing. As Alec McGillis of The New Republic says:

It is true that the swing voters are not paying attention right now and will likely not pay attention until September. However, you can't just hit the gas the day after Labor Day and expect the machine to work. The trajectories that are established today will determine the directions of the campaigns. The smarter Karl knew that:

Men make their own history, but they do not make it as they please; they do not make it under self-selected circumstances, but under circumstances existing already, given and transmitted from the past.

Messaging takes time.

The Obama people just planted the seeds, which have only started to sprout.

At least for most people, the Obama people are going with new seeds - Mitt's tax returns, his offshore accounts, his outsourcing.

What seeds are the Romney people trying to plant?
The same old ones that didn't sprout much in '07 and '08, when Hillary started the planting, and McCain and "The Whore of Babblin'On" failed to make grow - despite the MSM's best efforts in the beginning.

No, Obama needs to keep this up.

Eventually, even the thickest skulls with the deafest ears will hear and notice, and wonder, "What's all this froo-fra about?"

You harvest in October and November, what you plant in the spring and summer.
That's something Chauncey Gardner would tell the Obama people, as well.
