THE BEST HEALTH CARE SYSTEM IN THE WORLD BECAUSE IT LEAVES PEOPLE WITH HUGE BILLS
Jon Voight's been a busy guy lately. He was recently seen on Mike Huckabee's Fox News show reading a manifesto that described President Obama as someone who "feeds ... people poison" and, by means of "socialistic, Marxist teaching ... rapes this nation, taking down our defenses, making new language for the Islamic extremists" (whatever the hell that means):
Not content with that, he's also reached out to a GOP Senate candidate in Maryland:
Celebrity actor, Jon Voight, is supposedly supporting Corrogan Vaughn in his campaign for US Senate against Barbara Mikulski in Maryland.
According to the campaign website: "Vaughn talked with celebrity actor Jon Voight at the [March 20th Health Care Code Red] rally. The two met once before at a hospital where Vaughn was undergoing treatment for a brain tumor. Voight recognized Vaughn and was struck by Vaughn's resolve in battling back from the brain tumor and overcoming, without a government handout, the $250,000 in hospital bills that resulted from the surgery. Voight offered to help Vaughn significantly in his campaign."
... There are reports that Jon Voight may throw his full star power behind Vaughn by holding a campaign fundraiser in Baltimore in the near future....
And while I'm not sure Voight is necessarilty offering an endorsement, there he is, in a photo on Vaughn's campaign site (just below a photo of Vaughn with Sean Hannity):
What's interesting to me is the reference on the site to "Vaughn's resolve in battling back from the brain tumor and overcoming, without a government handout, the $250,000 in hospital bills that resulted from the surgery." According to the bio on Vaughn's site, he was working at US Airways and training to be a commercial pilot when the cancer hit. US Airways kept him on the payroll -- then and for twelve years afterward -- but, as Vaughn said in an Examiner.com article,
"My tumor surgery cost me $257 thousand. As a working class citizen, I was able to pay that off over time. Government exists to govern and serve. It should not supply handouts, but should help out."
So here's a guy who had a job with a major employer. Then he got cancer. He either didn't have health coverage at all or his coverage was so porous that he amassed huge bills.
And he apparently thinks that's a good thing.
So there's your GOP health plan, folks -- not "Don't get sick," but, rather, "Get really, really sick and go deep into debt -- the threat of bankruptcy builds character."
