A WOMAN WHO HAS SOME INTERESTING ADVICE FOR PALIN

Politico notes a moment from yesterday's Sarah Palin's interview with Chris Wallace on Fox:

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin blames her upside-down approval rating among independents on one of her favorite foils: the media.

Palin, who serves as a paid commentator for Fox News, said on "Fox News Sunday" that "if I believed everything I read or heard in the media, I wouldn't like me either." ...

Um, Sarah? I came across some advice from a woman you might know regarding the usefulness of media-bashing in situations like this. Don't be offended, but I think you might benefit from this:

Fair or unfair, I think she does herself a disservice to even mention it. You gotta to plow through that. You have to know what you're getting into ... when I hear a statement like that coming from a woman candidate with any kind of perceived whine about that excess criticism or you know maybe a sharper microscope put on her, I think, 'man that doesn't do us any good' ... she is going to be under the sharper microscope. So be it. I mean, work harder, prove yourself to an even greater degree that you're capable.... So it bothers me a little bit hearing her bring that attention to herself on that level.

Oh, wait -- that wasn't "a woman you might know." That was you in August 2008, talking about how Hillary Clinton should respond to media criticism of her:

And as for that other Palin soundbite from yesterday....

Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin on Sunday praised Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer for defending her state's immigration law in court against the Justice Department's lawsuit, saying she has the "cojones" that President Obama is lacking on border security.

Though the Obama administration this month will begin deploying 1,200 more National Guard troops to the southwest border, Palin said on "Fox News Sunday" that Brewer is tackling border security and putting her faith in legal immigration where Obama is not.

"Jan Brewer has the cojones that our president does not have," she said. "If our own president will not enforce our federal law, more power to Jan Brewer." ...

... well, I don't want to say anything about it, and I think it would be best if everyone else who's inclined to criticize her just keeps quiet. If she gets enough flak for this, you know what she's going to do: she's going to work an accusation of "cojones"-deficiency into every speech she makes forever. (She's still writing on her hand, isn't she?)

Then again, I think she might make "cojones" a regular part of her rhetoric no matter what -- hey, calling Democrats girly-men (except for the women, who are men by definition) has gotten a lot of Republicans elected, and won Maureen Dowd a Pulitzer Prize, right? So why not?

It's a natural extension of this "Mama Grizzly" nonsense -- We Mama Grizzlies have cojones! You liberal wimps don't! She'll gleefully declare that she has cojones, her endorsees have cojones, her cultists in the electorate (female as well as male) have cojones.... Hell, in a few months you'll probably be able to buy Palin-branded Truck Nutz.

I probably shouldn't be giving her any ideas. In any case, the only hope we have for avoiding this fate is probably to say as little as possible about this soundbite (and I've probably already said too much).

Crooks and Liars has video of those Palin moments, if you can bear them.
