Catholic Cardinal: A Sin to Cooperate With Obama Mandate
A leading Catholic cardinal at the Vatican has essentially said that complying the with Obama birth control mandate would have Catholics and Catholic organizations participating in sin....
In an upcoming episode of Catholic Action Insight hosted by Thomas McKenna to air on EWTN on Wednesday, Cardinal Raymond Burke speaks out for the first time on the controversial mandate....
Thomas McKenna: "So a Catholic employer, really getting down to it, he does not, or she does not provide this because that way they would be, in a sense, cooperating with the sin…the sin of contraception or the sin of providing a contraceptive that would abort a child, is this correct?"
Cardinal Burke: "This is correct. It is not only a matter of what we call "material cooperation" in the sense that the employer by giving this insurance benefit is materially providing for the contraception but it is also "formal cooperation" because he is knowingly and deliberately doing this, making this available to people. There is no way to justify it. It is simply wrong."
That would be this Cardinal Raymond Burke, former archbishop of St. Louis:
Archbishop Raymond Burke denounced a Catholic charity Wednesday for scheduling a benefit-concert appearance by Sheryl Crow, who supports abortion rights.
Burke submitted his resignation as chairman of the board for the Cardinal Glennon Children's Foundation, saying the decision to let Crow sing on Saturday left him no other choice....
"A Catholic institution featuring a performer who promotes moral evil gives the impression that the church is somehow inconsistent in its teaching," Burke said.
Crow is set to appear at the 19th annual benefit for the Bob Costas Cancer Center at Cardinal Glennon Children's Medical Center. Costas will host the event, which will also feature comedian Billy Crystal....

Cardinal Burke: "... Many defend books such as the "Harry Potter" series, stating that magic is natural to children's stories, appealing as it does to the imagination. It is one thing, however, to tell stories that include magical elements, as fairy tales do. It is quite another to tell stories in which human beings obtain magical powers, which they use for control of the world around them. The latter has always been associated with witchcraft. And in the Christian literary tradition, from Shakespeare's MacBeth to C.S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia, witchcraft has always been regarded as evil."
Burke proclaimed that he'd deny communion to John Kerry in 2004 and urged a Jesuit university to discipline a pro-choice basketball coach for supporting Hillary Clinton's presidential bid in 2008. In 2008, Burke said that the Democratic Party "risks transforming itself definitively into a 'party of death.'" A year later, he said President Obama "could be an agent of death," in an interview with Operation Rescue founder Randall Terry. Forgive me if his current pronouncement doesn't motivate me to reconsider my position on the mandate.
(Oh, and by the way, I won't be the least bit surprised if this guy is the next pope.)

How well will that feminist "war on women" spin work when the bishops are all over TV and the press making it clear as day the issue is who makes the law in America, the American people or America's Catholic clergy backed up to the hilt by the conservative Protestants who loved Santorum?
Enough publicity and they can scream all they want that the clergy are men (perfectly true, on the whole), I don't think that will continue to work as well as it has.
American women will start to see the conflict as what it is and what they did not want to face, another Christian attack against the sexual revolution that set America free from clerical control in the bedroom.
And then we'll find out whether those millions of American women in the pews who regularly use contraceptives and sometimes get abortions have the courage to admit to themselves what the feminists have helped them all along to NOT admit, that their battle is with the church authorities they still revere and NOT with the men sitting beside them in those pews who are and have been all along on the same side of this fight as them.
in all fairness, cheryl crow's music _is_ evil.
