Raw Story reports:
Anders Behring Breivik, the Norweigan mass murderer who killed 77 and injured 151 in a series of attacks last year, said at trial this week that he targeted the children of Norway's leftist political leaders because they were "in many ways similar to the Hitler Youth."
His defense is alarmingly similar to a comment made by the American right-wing political commentator Glenn Beck....
During a July 25, 2011 broadcast just days after Breivik’s attack, Beck ... [said] that as details began to come out about the massacre, he felt the camp that was targeted "sounds a little like the Hitler Youth or, you know, whatever."
Yes, Beck said that -- but Breivik's friend Pam Geller quoted it, as Paul Mutter of Mondoweiss noted shortly after the massacre:
Pamela Geller, founder of Atlas Shrugs, delayed a full response to the shootings in Norway (by her own admission).... now, Atlas Shrugs has finally joined this argument: this past Sunday, Geller published an analysis of the victims titled "Summer Camp? Antisemitic Indoctrination Training Center" ....
... Glen Beck [sic] was not far off when he compared it to the Hitlerjugend or Young Pioneers.
In case you've forgotten about the Breivik-Geller connection:
In a manifesto posted online, the admitted killer, Anders Behring Breivik, praised Geller. He cited her blog, Atlas Shrugs, and the writings of her friends, allies, and collaborators -- Robert Spencer, Jihad Watch, Islam Watch, and Front Page magazine -- more than 250 times.... He reprinted, as part of the manifesto, a 2006 essay by "Fjordman" -- a blogger whose work appears frequently on Geller's site -- which argued that "radical Muslims and moderate Muslims are allies" and that because Islam teaches deception, no Muslim who claims to be moderate can be trusted.
And, of course, there's this:
In June 2007, "counter-jihad" blogger Pamela Geller posted [an] Email from Norway, from a reader who sounds a lot like the Oslo terrorist, Anders Behring Breivik....
But Pamela Geller's guilty conscience is showing again, because as a matter of fact, she edited her post very recently to take out the most incriminating line. The Internet Archive has a copy of the original....
... the line Geller edited out is:
We are stockpiling and caching weapons, ammunition and equipment. This is going to happen fast.
Did Breivik get that line from Beck? Maybe, maybe not. But if he did, I bet he got it indirectly, via his pal Geller.
