SURELY LUCY WILL LET ME KICK THE FOOTBALL NOW!

No surprise to see this in The Washington Post:

President Obama's advisers are nearing a recommendation that Khalid Sheik Mohammed, the self-proclaimed mastermind of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, be prosecuted in a military tribunal, administration officials said, a step that would reverse Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr.'s plan to try him in civilian court in New York City.

The Obama people never see what's coming -- they can never accurately estimate the depth of opposition to their plans, and they never have a plan to counter that opposition. Occasionally -- or maybe only on health care -- they can hang in for fifteen rounds, but they still never know how to win the war, because they never realize they need to know how to win a war.

And this just makes me groan:

...If Obama accepts the likely recommendation of his advisers, the White House may be able to secure from Congress the funding and legal authority it needs to close the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and replace it with a facility within the United States.

Um, here's how that's going to work out:

Oh, and on the subject of a military tribunal for KSM, I hope the administration realizes that that will have to be conducted overseas. I hope there's no thought that KSM et al. can be tried stateside, even in a military procedure. That's another humiliating battle Team Obama would lose. Just cut your losses, guys. They're going to make you crawl, so just announce now that you're going to hold the freaking trial at Gitmo and end the humiliation now.
