REPUBLICAN PRIORITIES: AN OBSERVATION

The argument being made by Mitt Romney and his backers is that the Obama administration is angrier at the makers of a Muslim-bashing video than it is at the people who've been attacking our embassies, and who killed our ambassador in Libya.

The problem is, Mitt Romney is clearly angrier at Barack Obama than he is at the people who've been attacking our embassies, and who killed our ambassador in Libya.

And Romney's backers are clearly angrier at the media than they are at the people who've been attacking our embassies, and who killed our ambassador in Libya:

* Wall Street Journal editorial page: "Romney Offends the Pundits"
* John Podhoretz in the New York Post: "The Media Lash Out: Bashing Mitt's Mideast Comments"
* Erick Erickson: "The American Media Beclowned Themselves Yesterday"

Romney has a press release out now titled "What They're Saying About President Obama's 'Weak Leadership,'" featuring quotes from the likes of Donald Rumsfeld, Dick Cheney, and those great foreign policy experts Bobby Jindal and Rick Perry. I'm looking in vain, however, for a press release on the Romney Web site that just says the attacks are abhorrent and indefensible and doesn't say how much more awesome Romney is than Obama.

The problem isn't that Romney initially politicized this. It's that he's consistently done nothing else. He has no plan. He has no ideas.

He does, of course, have a catchphrase. "No apology" -- that seems to be the totality of his plan for dealing with situations like this. That seems to be the totality of his backers' plan.

He and his backers do, admittedly, know who their enemies are. Unfortunately for America, their enemies are not the perpetrators or instigators of these embassy attacks.

****

UPDATE: Mitt finally tones it down.

Bingo. Exactly.

Well, if you really think about it, Bush and Cheney were angrier at the Democrats and the MSM who pointed out their foibles, than they were at anyone except Saddam Hussein.
Hell, how else do you explain them letting bin Laden walk, when they wanted to invade Iraq, and got pissed at anyone who disagreed with their sense of priorities. I remember several MSM people losing their jobs - and anyone who disagreed with them was labeled as a treasonous traitor.

The real enemies of Conservatives, are those who don't agree with them at home.

They focus on us, instead of on the tasks at haand.

You're absolutely right, Victor. The enemies they really cared about were all domestic.

If you read enough about the history of the Nazi's, the Soviet's, and Communist Chinese, you find out that in totalitarian regimes, be they Fascist or Communist, before they worry about the enemies withOUT, they have to destroy the enemies withIN.

And that is what scares me more than anything if the Republican Party, as is currently is, regains control.

They've been pretty open about the elimination of all of their internal enemies - you know, us, their fellow citizens.

And if you're not a Christian Evengelical straight white, preferably male, you may be
suspected of un-Americanism.

Absolutely agree with you both, Steve & Victor. And it makes Gov. Android & Co look exactly like what they are - and that ain't a good sign for them.

Also is there any doubt that Republicans are far angrier at the media for pointing out Romney/Ryan lies than the advisers, speechwriters and candidates themselves for their incompetence?

And who are you guys most angry at? Some schmuck who made a video.

Steve M. said...

The people who made and promoted the film are among the guilty parties. They put this out there and publicized it online on just the sites where3 it was likely to incite an angry mob. They have blood on their hands.

See?

And will you join the rising chorus of establishment Democrats joining the Muslim Brotherhood, most Muslim governments of the world, al-Qaeda, the Muslims at the UN, and the Taliban in demanding that schmuck video maker be punished, right alongside the pastor who wanted to burn a Koran?

The Muslims have been trying to undo what is historically the work of liberals, an understanding of the First Amendment strong enough to protect blasphemy and deliberate offence to religion, for their own case.

Democrats now for the second day are making their cowardly national security argument for doing exactly what the Muslims demand.

And so the one religion in all the world most deserving of criticism and wrath for its cruelty, fanaticism and violence becomes the one religion in the world that has so successfully scared us our own governments will do their dirty work and shut us up?

Phooey.
