STUPIDEST BLOG POST OF THE YEAR SO FAR
Dan Riehl, in response to Drudge's "news"flash predicting a possible early exit from the race by Hillary Clinton:
...One cannot be re-born until you die. What better way to do it than to plant the story of your demise, eventually pinning it on the underhanded dealings of a presumably noble competitor's campaign? Nothing like sucking the wind out of your competitions headline grabbing success with a staged funeral that doesn't take place. I don't buy it at all.
Yeah, that makes so much sense, Dan: Vast numbers of people (righties, lefties, pundits) slaver at the prospect of kicking Hillary and her husband when they're down -- so she would strategically plant a story that says, effectively, "I'M DOWN!" Oh, that would be so shrewd, wouldn't it?
Yeah, just imagine: You're in a race in which many voters would be perfectly content with several of the front-runners -- yet now the polls are showing that human nature is kicking in and voters are gravitating toward the new apparent leader. So you'd make him look even more like a winner and yourself as even more like a loser? Wow. That's just brilliant -- and so likely to succeed.
Dan must be imagining that front-rank political strategists pursue campaign success the way some (mostly male) placers of personal ads pursue true love, i.e., by making themselves sound as awful as humanly possible ("Bitter, unsuccessful middle aged loser wallowing in an unending sea of inert, drooping loneliness looking for 24 year old needy leech-like hanger-on to abuse with dull stories, tired sex and Herb Alpert albums"). That, of course, works so well in the romantic sphere. Is that what you're thinking, Dan? Is that what you'd do (in one of these situations or the other)?
