McCAIN'S VICTORY SPEECH
For the love of God, America, please tell me we're not going to have another president who refers to the various anti-American groups in the Arab/Muslim world as "an enemy" -- i.e., using a singular noun -- as if a secular groups and religious groups, anti-American Arabs and anti-American Persians, Shiite opponents and Sunni opponents are all one differentiated group of ragheads from Terroristan. Dammit, that's the kind of willful ignorance that got us into this Iraq mess in the first place.
Not that the GOP runners-up did much better. Hey, Mitt and Huck, I know you're just reciting your party's boilerplate, but I have a newsflash for you: People in other countries love their families. People in other countries work hard. People in other countries are patriotic.
Republicans. Feh.
****
UPDATE: McCain's exact words:
And as we confront this enemy, the people privileged to serve in public office should not evade our mutual responsibility to defeat them because we are more concerned with personal or partisan ambition. Whatever the differences between us, so much more should unite us. And nothing should unite us more closely than the imperative of defeating an enemy who despises us, our values and modernity itself.
I suppose you could say he's referring to al-Qaeda. So why is he so pleased that we're fighting in Iraq?
