FREDO LIVES!

One more sign of the Last Days: I just found out via e-mail that Crimes Against Liberty: An Indictment of President Barack Obama, by David-Brother-of-Rush Limbaugh, has hit #1 on the New York Times hardcover nonfiction list.

(The list will appear in the print Times on, er, 9/12. It should be on the Web site this weekend.)

I've downplayed the theory that right-wing books make the bestseller list only because of bulk buys. I do think the sales of, say, Sarah Palin's book are largely legit. However, in this case I'll point out that the book appears on the list with a dagger; as the Times notes, "A dagger (†) indicates that some bookstores report receiving bulk orders." Yeah, I'll bet. Fredo's publisher is Regnery, which used to have right-wing bestsellerdom pretty much to itself but has lost market share to other publishers (Beck, Levin, O'Reilly, Hannity, and Palin, to name a few, publish elsewhere, and Coulter hasn't published there in years). Daggers are, to say the least, fairly common for Regnery titles on the Times list.
