Only 5% of the members of the new Afghan parliament are drug traffickers!

(Source: this article by the usually reliable Carlotta Gall of The New York Times. Gall says there are 17 drug traffickers "among the members of Parliament." I don't know if that's 17 out of the 351 in both houses of Paliament or 17 out of the 249 elected to the lower house; if it's the latter, bump that 5% up to 7%.)

(Oh, and do go here and click on the DRUGS AND SECURITY tab -- you won't need an advanced degree in statistics to figure out which way opium production has been going in Afghanistan in the "war on terror" years.)
