A death toll of 160 in Baghdad yesterday, with 570 wounded -- the bloodiest day in the city since the start of the war. And 31 additional fatalities today.

There couldn't possibly be anyone who'd say what's usually said after bombings in Baghdad -- not now. This is awful. No one would dare say the usual thing.

Whoops, sorry -- I was wrong:

"The increase in attacks we saw today and yesterday is an indication of their (Al-Qaeda's Iraq branch) desperation, because they know that they cannot defeat us militarily," a US Central Command spokesman said from As-Saliyah base in Qatar.

STOP IT! STOP IT! FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, TURN THE AUTOMATONS OFF!
