Rush Limbaugh: Pro-Child-Kidnaping

In the race for Most Disgusting Demagoguery of the Year (there are so many contenders!), my vote goes to the old pro Rush Limbaugh for a piece headlined Obama Invades Uganda, Targets Christians. And yes, in case you were wondering, the headline really does accurately summarize the piece:

Now, up until today, most Americans have never heard of the combat Lord's Resistance Army. And here we are at war with them....Lord's Resistance Army are Christians. They are fighting the Muslims in Sudan. And Obama has sent troops, United States troops to remove them from the battlefield, which means kill them. That's what the lingo means, "to help regional forces remove from the battlefield," meaning capture or kill.

So that's a new war, a hundred troops to wipe out Christians in Sudan, Uganda, and -- (interruption) no, I'm not kidding....

Lord's Resistance Army objectives. I have them here....The objectives of the Lord's Resistance Army, what they're trying to accomplish with their military action in these countries is the following: "To remove dictatorship and stop the oppression of our people; to fight for the immediate restoration of the competitive multiparty democracy in Uganda; to see an end to gross violation of human rights and dignity of Ugandans; to ensure the restoration of peace and security in Uganda, to ensure unity, sovereignty, and economic prosperity beneficial to all Ugandans, and to bring to an end the repressive policy of deliberate marginalization of groups of people who may not agree with the LRA ideology." Those are the objectives of the group that we are fighting, or who are being fought and we are joining in the effort to remove them from the battlefield.
Human Rights Watch has a different take on the people Rush says are doing the Lord's work:
The Ugandan rebel Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) has abducted more than 697 adults and children in a largely unreported campaign in the Central African Republic and the neighboring Bas Uele district of northern Democratic Republic of Congo over the past 18 months, Human Rights Watch said today. Nearly one-third of those abducted have been children, many of whom are being forced to serve as soldiers or are being used for sex by the group's fighters.

During the abduction campaign, the LRA has brutally killed adults and children who tried to escape, walked too slowly, or were unable to bear the heavy loads they were forced to carry, Human Rights Watch found in its investigations in the region. The LRA has killed at least 255 adults and children, often by crushing their skulls with clubs. In dozens of cases, the LRA forced captive children to kill other children and adults.
I feel bad for those of you with wingnut relatives who know how to forward e-mail. You're going to be seeing this one a lot (MUSLIM PREZNIT ON WORLDWIDE ANTI-CHRISTIAN RAMPAGE!).

For fuck's sake, James Fucking Inhofe supports this (although his press release, curiously, omits the name of the Commander in Chief who made the decision). But Limbaugh, and with him a sizable chunk of the right, so hates the President--reflexively, viscerally--that if Obama opposes child abduction and rape and murder, then by god they're going to support it.
