David Kirkpatrick interviewed Judge Roy Moore for today's New York Times. An excerpt:

Q. You have certainly become a hero to many conservative Christians in the country.

A. It's a shame that you can become a hero in the Christian faith by acknowledging God. I mean, that is an absolute slight upon the entire Christian faith that someone can become a hero simply for acknowledging the God upon which the nation and our laws are founded.

And the truth of that, and I do look at it this way, is, it's not unfair to anybody. It's not unfair to the Jewish faith. Indeed, the Jewish faith has so prospered in this country. Why is that? It's because this God does not give that authority to government to dictate how you think. It is absolutely prohibited. That's why we have the First Amendment.

Yeah, Judge, but guess what? There were still quite a few anti-Semitic institutions in this country well into the 1960s -- and if institutionalized anti-Semitism really has withered away, it finally started to disappear just about when the godless, demonic Madalyn Murray O'Hair and some "activist judges" were, as you'd put it, driving religion from the public square. Coincidence? I don't think so.
