I SEE HOW THIS IS GOING TO END: WITH A WHIMPER

Rebekah Brooks is gone:

Rebekah Brooks, chief executive of News International, has resigned, the company has confirmed....

But, just as this is happening, we're also reading this:

Rupert Murdoch's daughter Elisabeth has made a "furious" attack on Rebekah Brooks's handling of the phone hacking scandal at News International, The Daily Telegraph has learnt.

The 42-year-old is said to have privately "railed" against the News International chief executive and former editor of the News of the World.

Miss Murdoch, who is set to be given a seat on the board of her father's News Corp empire, told friends that Mrs Brooks had "f----- the company"....

Miss Murdoch, a former managing director at BSkyB, left her father's business empire in 2000 to set up her own media venture.

She recently rejoined the News Corp fold when in a £290 million deal it took over Shine, her production company....

So Elisabeth Murdoch, who was out of the picture during the phone-hacking period, will now rise rapidly in the company and become one of its most prominent public faces. She'll become the subject of many soft, you-go-girl profiles in the press. Everyone will agree that a page has been turned.

And thus, after a few heads roll -- not Daddy Rupert's, of course -- this will all go away.
