AND SPEAKING OF PRESIDENTIAL RECREATION DURING CRISES...

Yes, President Obama continued to play golf after the murder of James Foley -- but remember that an aide to President Kennedy summoned Mimi Alford, a college student with whom JFK was having an affair, to the White House in the midst of the Cuban Missile Crisis, according to Alford's 2012 memoir, Once Upon a Secret.

Although it should be noted that they didn't actually have sex, according to Alford:

But he wanted her there for him. And yet the world survived.

Yeah, Obama after updating the press about ISIS on the golf course, should never, ever, have then said to them as he grabbed his driver, "Now watch this drive!"

That was both cold and stupi...

Wait...
I don't think that was Obama.
Who the hell said that, then?
Hmm...

I don't know what it is about Americans and their resentment of presidential golf. I am old enough to remember Mad Magazine making fun of Eisenhower for it. Needless to say Obama couldn't win in this instance: if he had looked sad he would have been accused of faking it for the camera; angry and he would have been laughed at for being a gutless wimp; and so on. But the amount of energy that conservatives devote to writing demented "Gosh I hate that Obama guy!" comments on the internet is quite startling, and not a little concerning.

Until recently, that is, before the 1960s, golf was a game limited to the rich who could afford the green fees, the equipment, and could afford to take an afternoon off to play. My grandfather owned his own trucking company in Northern California, after WWII, and he took up golfing as a way to get some exercise and showing off his prosperity as well.

Also, I've read enough accounts of folders and caddies that there was, and there still maybe a subset of golfers who are absolute jerks, and spoil the reputation of all of them.

Also, we Amuricans are uneasy if our Presidents demonstrate that they've attained a level far superior to that which the manjority of the country will never reach. OTOH, Reagan chopping wood on his ranch or Bush the Dumber clearing brush on his spread seems to make the stars shine brighter for conservatives here, despite the fact that a man in Reagan's place would probably pay someone to chop firewood for the ranch, and a BtD who clears brush during the summer does so for the photo-op, because in TX brush is only cleared during the winter, when it is cooler and easier to do so.

Anyhow, hope that helps a little bit.

Kennedy was a horrible president and a jackass. Just a washout.

Why don't you tell us how much better "arms for hostages" St Ronnie was for America, Philo.
