WHAT'S THE DOWNSIDE IF TRUMP FIRES MUELLER?

Could this really happen? Sure.
One of President Donald Trump’s attorneys on Sunday wouldn't rule out the possibility the president would fire the special counsel appointed to look into his campaign’s potential ties to Russia.

Robert Mueller was appointed by the Justice Department last month to investigate Russia's interference in the 2016 presidential election. And on Sunday, ABC's George Stephanopoulos asked Trump attorney Jay Sekulow whether the president would pledge not to interfere or order the attorney general to fire Mueller.

“Look, the president of the United States, as we all know, is a unitary executive,” Sekulow said on ABC’s “This Week.” “But the president is going to seek the advice of his counsel and inside the government as well as outside. And I'm not going to speculate on what he will, or will not, do.”
And this isn't even one of Trump's hyperaggressive you-want-a-piece-of-me-jagoff? New York lawyers. This is a religious right lawyer with a Ph.D. from Pat Robertson's Regent University. Can't imagine what you'd be told if you asked one of Trump's goombah lawyers.

Seriously, what reason would Trump have for not firing Mueller at some point? Fear of Nixon comparisons in the media? Those are already happening, and they're not giving Trump pause. Do you think he's afraid that blatant obstruction of justice will lead to impeachment proceedings? Republicans in Congress are his Get Out of Jail Free card. They'll save him in the Senate even if Republicans lose the House in 2018. He'd probably enjoy an impeachment trial. He'd testify in his own defense, and his testimony would be utterly dishonest and borderline insane. And Republicans would still vote to acquit. So why not fire Mueller?
