REPUBLICANS WOULD NEVER PROPOSE A JOBS PROGRAM AS PART OF A WAR!

Remember when we had a straight-talkin' Texas cowboy as president? A guy who'd never in a million years suggest you might need to provide jobs as well as kill people in order to previl in a conflict, the way that horrible Obama State Department lady did?

Yeah, remember that guy?
President Bush’s new Iraq strategy calls for a rapid influx of forces that could add as many as 20,000 American combat troops to Baghdad, supplemented with a jobs program costing as much as $1 billion intended to employ Iraqis in projects including painting schools and cleaning streets, according to American officials who are piecing together the last parts of the initiative.
More (this was from January 2007):
Officials said the job program, intended to employ young men who otherwise might join the militias, could cost as much as $1 billion if Congress approves it.
(Emphasis added above.)

You can say it was a dumb strategy then and it's a dumb strategy now. But the point is that it wasn't always deemed a wimpy, mom-jeans approach. It was a manly and patriotic strategy when President Codpiece was proposing it.

Here's the thing; a jobs program wouldn't be aimed at anyone already in ISIS. This is about potential new recruits. That's why she explicitly frames this as a medium-to-long term solution, not as a way to combat current ISIS fighters.

Does anyone deny that ISIS is still recruiting new members? Well, how are they doing that? By giving them (what they perceive to be) a better option than the other available options. A jobs program essentially tries to "recruit" these potentials before ISIS does.

What is wrong with snatching potential ISIS recruits away from jihadism?
