OR FOX COULD CONSIDER NOT ENCOURAGING ITS AUDIENCE TO BE THE ABSOLUTE WORST

The Fox News website does a decent job of reporting a sad story:
Blake Hounshell, a revered journalist at The New York Times, died on Tuesday, the paper announced. He was 44 years old....

Hounshell's family issued a statement saying "It is with great sorrow that we have to inform you that Blake has suddenly died this morning after a long and courageous battle with depression. His wife, Sandy, and two children are in our thoughts and prayers, and ask for respect and privacy at this time."
The story is filled out with tributes from fellow journalists who worked with him or knew him. There's no snark. There are no cheap shots at Hounshell, at the Times, or at the non-right-wing media.

A decision was apparently made to leave that kind of ugliness to participants in the comment thread:
liberals will do ANYTHING for attention.

****

How much info did he have on the Clintons?

****

biden vote regret?

****

Only revered by liberals...Hey we all die sometime. Next story.

****

The moral of the story is don’t be a democrat and work for a biased democratic paper.

****

I'm sorry for his family but at least we won't listen to another lier

****

Was it natural cause or was he fully vaxxed.

****

maybe a few more would change the direction of the trash paper

****

Let's check the entirety of the Twitter Files? Maybe he knew he was soon to be exposed as yet another NYT fake-journalist that makes up stories/outright lies and publishes them?

****

No loss, anyone associating with Politico and NY Times does not deserve to share the same space as us.

****

Well....bye!

****

I'd be depressed too, if I worked for that rag.

****

I understand. I am sure working for a newspaper that lies and slants and ignores important news can weigh heavily on a kind, caring person who truly wants to report the news, ALL news...you know like what journalism used to be about. But liberals just continue to beat the good people down, destroying all feelings of hope and making this a darker world that it needs to be.

****

Could care less ... Side-Effects of the COVID-19 vaccines

****

I think anyone working there would be depressed. Can't lie all the time without a moral conflict.

****

Lying for a living has serious consequences

****

No disrespect for the deceased intended, but the use of “journalist” and The New York Times in the same vernacular is misleading and even might be deemed mis-information.

****

A disproportionate number of depressed adults are progressives. It is a chicken or the egg question as to which comes first.

****

One down. Baby steps.
If you're Fox News, why would you even want a comment thread for a story about the death of someone who worked for a media outlet your entire audience regards as "fake news"? You know it's just going to bring out the worst in the readers.

There's no comment thread at this Washington Post story about the death of Lynette Hardaway, better known as Diamond of the pro-Trump sister duo Diamond and Silk. That's the right decision. Why offer the opportunity for haters to be their worst selves?

But that's what they want at Fox. They want readers to linger on the site and be the abolute worst they can be. It ensures a lot of views of a lot of ads. It helps Fox build brand loyalty.

Fox would still be making massive amounts of money if haters weren't given this kind of outlet on certain stories. But the people at Fox don't care about the corrosiveness they encourage.
