GOP BULLIES AND TRASH TALKERS SEEM LIKE TRUMP SUBSTITUTES TO HIS FANS, BUT NOT TO HIS HATERS

As you may already know, the latest Quinnipiac poll is very bad for the Democrats.
Americans say 46 - 38 percent they would want to see the Republican Party win control of the House of Representatives, while 16 percent did not offer an opinion....

Americans say 46 - 40 percent they would want to see the Republican Party win control of the U.S. Senate, while 15 percent did not offer an opinion....

Americans give President Biden a negative 36 - 53 percent job approval rating, while 10 percent did not offer an opinion. It's the lowest job approval rating he's received in a Quinnipiac University national poll.
The one bright spot is that poll respondents don't seem very fond of Donald Trump.
If a candidate for the U.S. House of Representatives or the U.S. Senate strongly embraces former President Trump and his ideas, roughly 4 in 10 Americans (42 percent), say they would be less likely to vote for that candidate, 29 percent say they would be more likely to vote for that candidate, and 27 percent say it would have no impact.
Similarly, in a new Marquette Law School poll, only 28% of respondents want Trump to run for president again in 2024, and he loses to Biden 42%-34%.

But if Americans aren't pleased when a candidate "strongly embraces" Trump, why are Republicans doing so well? Nearly every Republican in Congress or running for Congress "strongly embraces" Trump. Somehow that's not bothering voters.

We know what most Americans don't like about Trump -- he's a bully, an overgrown child obsessed with messaging on social media, a trash talker. Faced with a once-in-a-century health crisis, he utterly failed to take it seriously, and many people died as a result.

Well, here's the Republican Party now that Trump is out of office. Here's Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana bullying a Biden appointee who was required to join a communist youth organization during her childhood in Soviet-era Kazakhstan:

Here's Congressman Paul Gosar defiantly spreading an eliminationist video after being censured for posting the same video:

And here's Governor Ron DeSantis of Florida embracing trash talk and COVID denialism:
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed several anti-vaccine mandate bills into law Thursday at a Honda dealership in Brandon, on the outskirts of Tampa — an apparent tip of the hat to a notorious right-wing anti-Joe Biden meme.

"We are proud to be able to make a stand for freedom in Brandon, Florida," the Republican governor and potential 2024 presidential candidate told supporters ahead of the bill signing. The crowd broke into occasional cheers of "Let's Go Brandon" during his remarks and those of local lawmakers.

The phrase is a popular right-wing euphemism for a profane attack on Biden....

After the signing, DeSantis was asked if the decision to hold the event in Brandon was made to troll the president. "I think that Brandon, Florida, is a great American city," he said with a smile.
Other Republicans are giving the base what it used to get from Trump -- but people who don't like Trump either aren't paying attention or don't believe that what they're seeing is particularly Trump-like (or don't care because "Trump-like" doesn't bother them if Trump himself isn't involved). They're ready once again to reward a party that's acting just the way Trump did (and, to be fair, the way many pre-Trump Republicans did).

This works out beautifully for the GOP. It won't work out very well for America.
