OF COURSE TRUMP WOULD BOMB CULTURAL SITES IN IRAN

I was going to refine this for the blog, but I think I've put it as well as I can here:

Of course it's meant to own the libs. That's the political undercurrent of everything Trump voters want and everything Trump does.

And I'm sure Trump knows nothing about the World Heritage Sites in Iran. (As a New York Times story notes, the list of World Heritage Sites is maintained by UNESCO; President Trump withdrew the United States from the organization in 2018.) Alphabetically, the first site on the list is the Armenian Monastic Ensembles of Iran, which are Christian churches -- although presumably the sick bastards who put this thought in Trump's head will avoid proposing that particular site as a target.

The most prominent site is the ruins of the ancient Persian capital, Persepolis. This was the capital of the Achaemenid Empire, which was burned approximately 2300 years ago. The Achaemenid religion was a form of Zoroastrianism.

Needless to say, it would be a war crime if Muslim cultural sites were targeted. But Trump undoubtedly believes that everything in Iran is Muslim and always has been, and would target any of these sites, thinking he's really stuck it to the Muslims (and the libs).

Don't forget that Trump has repeatedly told a false story about General John Pershing killing 49 Muslim soldiers in the Philippines with bullets dipped in pigs' blood. Trump's conclusion: "And for 25 years there wasn’t a problem” with those Muslims.

This evening I was checking out the venerable blog My Right Wing Dad, a repository of every know-nothing meme that's ever appeared in a conservative email forward. I recommend it if you truly want to understand the depths to which the other side has sunk. The most recent post includes this:

That's how American conservatives feel about everything Muslim. The feelings of the real-life Trump are no more refined than that. Combine this with the fact that he has no respect for culture of any kind, and you can be assured that he'd bomb every culture site in Iran without experiencing the slightest qualm. The only hope for those sites is that the generals are unlikely to agree to put them on a target list. Maybe one of them will persuade him that a bomb aimed at a cultural site is better aimed at killing people or knocking out military installations. Maybe Trump will order some sites attacked and the order won't be carried out, or Trump will be told the bombs went astray or failed to deploy. But while this desecration may never happen, there's no doubt that the president would find the idea delightful.
