TRUMP DOESN'T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT ANYTHING, BUT HE KNOWS EVERYTHING SUCKS

I just watched this clip of the president talking about the Lower Manhattan terrorist attack, and it's appalling:

TRUMP: That was a horrible event. We have to stop it and we have to stop it cold. We also have to come up with punishment that’s far quicker and far greater than the punishment these animals are getting right now. They’ll go through court for years. At the end, they'll be -- who knows what happens. We need quick justice, and we need strong justice, much quicker and much stronger than we have right now. Because what we have right now is a joke, and it’s a laughingstock. And no wonder so much of this stuff takes place. And I think I can speak for plenty of other countries, too, that are in the same situation.
The phrase that disgusts me most: "who know what happens." Dude, you're the president of the United States. Terrorism prosecutions are federal prosecutions. Why don't you know? You could know just from reading some news once in a while -- not watching Fox & Friends but reading the news.

Do you know what happened to the Chelsea bomber, Mr. President? Do you even know there was a Chelsea bomber? You should -- you tweeted about it.

He was convicted on October 16, less than thirteen months after the incident. He'll probably get life.
A jury convicted a New Jersey man Monday in a bombing last year that injured 31 people and sparked a frantic two-state manhunt. The verdict means the bomber, Ahmad Khan Rahimi, is likely to spend the rest of his life in prison.

A jury in Manhattan federal court deliberated for just a few hours between Friday afternoon and Monday morning before finding Rahimi guilty of all eight counts against him for planting bombs in the Manhattan neighborhood of Chelsea on Sept. 17, 2016. One bomb left on a sidewalk did not explode, but another, left inside a metal trash container, detonated, causing the injuries.
Trump has no motivation to learn facts like these, because he already "knows" what's important: that decent Americans (no, that doesn't include you, hippie) always get rooked, that vicious scum criminals get all the breaks because of legal technicalities and political correctness, and that if he were running the country (which I thought was already the case) everything would be much better. In other words, he "knows" what every angry drunk at the end of the bar "knows." Once you're certain of all that, who needs to bother learning any pesky facts or details?

It's quite possible that Trump believes life imprisonment -- even life at the brutal supermax prison in Florence, Colorado, where Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, shoe bomber Richard Reid, and underwear bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab are held -- is too soft a punishment. But I'm sure he has no idea what it's like. I'm sure he doesn't know any details about how prisoners are treated there (23 hours a day in solitary and so on). I'm not sure he even knows that we have a supermax prison in Florence, Colorado, even though it's a federal prison, and therefore it's run by people who ultimately report to him.

He just believes that everything sucks, because everyone except him is weak, lily-livered, and hopelessly PC. This is what every heavy consumer of Fox News and talk radio believes.

Trump also said this morning that he would "certainly consider" sending suspect Sayfullo Saipov to Guantánamo. He wasn't asked whether Saipov should be tortured, but I imagine that sounds like a swell idea to him -- on the campaign trail in 2016 he said he'd "bring back a hell of a lot worse than waterboarding." Never mind the fact that the ostensible reason the U.S. tortured terrorism suspects in the Bush years was to obtain information, and Saipov already appears to be talking quite freely about what he did.

Again, I don't think Trump has given this any serious thought. He just knows that it's quick, it's emotionally satisfying, and it's something other people have been too scrupulous to consider. So it must be good.
