BEEF UP SECURITY WHEREVER FEDERAL EMPLOYEES WORK -- NOW

After a jihadist attack against European or U.S. interests, we're always told that security is being tightened at obvious U.S. terrorist targets. I hope the same thing is happening now.

As you probably know by now, several of the wildlife refuge occupiers in Oregon have been arrested, and one has been shot and killed:
Oregon standoff spokesman Robert "LaVoy" Finicum was killed and other leaders of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge occupation were arrested Tuesday after the FBI and state police stopped vehicles about 20 miles north of Burns.

Authorities did not release the name of the person who died at the highway stop, but Finicum's daughter confirmed it was Finicum....
Initial reports said that Finicum was resisting arrest, but militia backers had a different story:
State Rep. Michele Fiore (R-Nevada) and the “Bundy Ranch” Facebook page shared similar accounts of Finicum’s fatal shooting, each claiming the rancher had been shot with his hands up while his friends were arrested.

The local media said that report had been debunked by a backer of the occupation:
Robert "LaVoy" Finicum ... was shot and killed after he charged police during a roadside stop north of Burns on Tuesday, according to a man on Facebook who claims to be the driver of one of two vehicles involved in the highway shooting.

Mark McConnell posted a video to Facebook Wednesday morning, recounting the Tuesday afternoon scene that led to Finicum's death....
But some folks on the right didn't believe this:
Finicum ... was shot and killed after he charged police during a roadside stop north of Burns on Tuesday, according to a man on Facebook who claims to be the driver of one of two vehicles involved in the highway shooting.” That’s the 411 from Les Zaitz, senior investigative reporter at oregonlive.com. Problem: Mark McConnell’s Facebook page is now blank. As is the deceased’s daughter’s Facebook page.... As of this writing, we only have Zaitz’ description of McConnell’s video....

The screen cap from Mr. Finicum’s daughter [now wiped] Facebook page does, presenting a very different not-to-say inflammatory picture of events surrounding her father’s death.

But McConnell has posted a second video, and Travis Gettys of Raw Story has uploaded it to YouTube:

McConnell -- who was taken into custody, questioned and released -- recorded a second video early Wednesday morning, saying that Payne told him that he and Finicum got into an argument in the pickup after the rancher fled the police stop.

He said Cox told him that Finicum crashed into the snowbank, jumped out of the manual transmission diesel pickup with the rear wheels still spinning and charged toward law enforcement officers.

The bodyguard said Cox and Payne each told him that Finicum charged toward officers before he was shot, and he explicitly denied that the rancher had surrendered or complied with law enforcement.

“He was not on his knees, none of that,” McConnell said. “He was none of that nonsense. You know, that was a miscommunication on somebody else’s part. But he went after them. He charged them. You know, LaVoy was very passionate about what he was doing up here.”
But I think a certain number of angry, armed people in America just aren't going to believe this account (or this one, which echoes McConnell's story). They're going to believe that this was the government murder of a man who had his hands up.

Somebody who thinks this was murder will try to avenge Finicum's death. I guarantee it. Given the way these folks think, the target could be any federal facility anywhere in America, or it could be any federal worker, or a member of that worker's family. There's a limit to how much can be done, but security really does need to be tightened at federal facilities after this. Anti-government extremists are crazy, so people are in danger now.

  1. Ok, let's say he was shot when his hands were up, are these imbaciles going to start a movement called "Treasonous Traitorous Old White Racist's Lives Matter!"

This happens to young black males, oh... Let's see... Practically daily!

And many of those black folks weren't armed members of a group of open seditionists.

Cry me a fucking river of "GO FUCK YOURSELVES!!!"

  2. I know these types are stupid. But what will a terrorist attack on a government group buy them? More than just ridicule is what I'd expect.

  3. Martyrdom. Immortality. (You still remember Timothy McVeigh, don't you?)

  4. You can understand the psychology of groups like this by referring to so-called honor cultures: from that perspective, the need for vengeance plays a tremendous role in their behavior.

Another tell: significant disregard for established law.

So yeah, I totally agree with Steve M: these guys are more than ready to get their kills on.

  5. I get it that McVeigh is a hero in the anti-government crowd. But he's a criminal in the mainstream.

  6. Yeah, suppose some of them act out. Then, maybe, after another 24 days, somebody whose job it is to do something, might actually do something! You never know.

  7. Victor's post above is spot on!

I wish that this revolution was televised (cellphone cam???)!

Sooo ... now that the guy wearing the blue cloak of invisibility ... or was that invincibility??? Not quite sure which it was.

Well ...that guy who did TV interviews for a worldwide audience ... seems to me that even with the camo ... he was easy to spot. And got shot!

Now I understand the brave patriot who cell phone videoed himself in his truck and posted on YouTube his rock solid stand for the Constitution in stead of being home with his "beloved" daughters for Christmas .... has FLED and was last heard begging erahh requesting that you send money ..so that he can continue the stand .... I think from some yet undisclosed area in ...North America???

Anywho ...anybody know when LEO is gonna bring out the Iraq surplus military trucks, tanks and Humvees and gear and stuff??? It should make for good TV ...you know like Fergunson!

You know those folks were throwing plastic bottles ... oooohhhh!

  8. retiredeng, this is something I've discussed with engs in my circle of friends and family, both active & retired: Every 'normal' person ['normal' meaning non-narcissist, at least not at the level that gets some many - not all, not ever nearly all, but very many - running for public office and being CEO or senior exec in a business] - has a circle of family & friends & work-related allies, associates & acquaintances, that in total numbers in the few hundreds at most.

And each of those few hundreds tend to have more in common with the mean member of the circle - or, to repatriate George Will's co-opted phrase, they tend to "be local" - than with people outside that circle.

Now, this can cause pretty major problems in, say, an attorney in Denver specializing in defending those accused of white collar fraud or charged in death penalty, or a junior member of a software development start-up Palo Alto, grasping the motivated thinking of a non-union Toyota factory parts warehouse clerk in South Bumfuh NC or a contract free field food produce sourcer for an Associated Retail dispatch center in Kansas City.

But it's deeper than that, because it goes right to grasping peer group prestige. So, while it's true that you and I, who've probably never met and likely never will and very likely are separated by several affinity circles from each other, can readily agree to the notion of McVeigh being a murdering ignorant racist ratbastard a-hole so deserving of the death penalty than even folks like us opposed to it on principle wouldn't duck throwing the switch, in a country this big, well over 300 million folks, there are well over 100 million just AFFINITY CIRCLES, so it's really not hard to conceive of there being quite literally MILLIONS of affinity circles continguous or somehow connected to McVeigh's own, and that in each of those, to some greater or lesser extent, the general view of McVeigh is that what he did was somehow principled and so he's broadly accepted within those circles as a martyr.

Again: it's not just millions of INDIVIDUALS for whom we can quite rationally expect these Malheur irregulars to be revolutionary patriots: it's millions of intersecting affinity circles, each full of individuals.

  9. They're occupying federal land now. Will be for quite some time. Stupid squaws.

  10. Murder one guy and leave lots of witnesses to it?

    Totally believable.

  11. McVeigh/Oklahoma was blowback from Waco. I'm pretty sure you can expect something similar for this. Face it, the Hammonds got screwed.

  12. No, the Hammond's did not get screwed. They were sentenced under the guidelines as eco-terrorists - hippies - that set fire to logging equipment and logdecks back when I was still working in the woods. They set fire to public lands, and endangered not only firefighters and law enforcement but the community at large. They are both domestic and eco-terrorists.

    I live here, white dog.
