RIGHT-WING RADIO HOST AND EX-AIDE TO WINGER CONGRESSMAN AMONG WASHINGTON POST'S PROUD WATER WASTERS

The Washington Post is out with a story about defiant water wasters in tony Rancho Santa Fe, California and its wealthy surroundings:
Rich Californians balk at limits: ‘We’re not all equal when it comes to water’

Drought or no drought, Steve Yuhas resents the idea that it is somehow shameful to be a water hog. If you can pay for it, he argues, you should get your water.

People “should not be forced to live on property with brown lawns, golf on brown courses or apologize for wanting their gardens to be beautiful,” Yuhas fumed recently on social media. “We pay significant property taxes based on where we live,” he added in an interview. “And, no, we’re not all equal when it comes to water.”
I'm not surprised that online right-wingers assume these people are liberals -- a post at the Conservative Treehouse, for instance, is titled "Ah, Progressives At Their Core – Some are Just Fundamentally More Equal Than Others...." They've got to be liberals, right? They're from California and they're rich! That matches a prime right-wing stereotype of liberals.

Except that Yuhas is in no way a liberal -- he's a right-wing talk radio host (slogan: "Uniquely Conservative Talk Radio™) who, despite being gay, not only opposes gay marriage but has called for a constitutional amendment banning it. He's also been involved with Ann Coulter's gay conervative gathering Homocon. And let's hear from Yuhas on a well-known Muslim advocacy group:
How about deportation for any non-citizens at CAIR and a good old fashioned butt whoopin’ for the ones who are Americans but are about as patriotic to America as the French?
Also quoted in the Post article is Brett Barbre:
“I call it the war on suburbia,” said Brett Barbre, who lives in the Orange County community of Yorba Linda, another exceptionally wealthy Zip code.

Barbre sits on the 37-member board of directors of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California, a huge water wholesaler serving 17 million customers. He is fond of referring to his watering hose with Charlton Heston’s famous quote about guns: “They’ll have to pry it from my cold, dead hands.”
Barbre is a member of the central committee of the Orange County Republican Party. He also spent seven years on the staff of Congressman Bill Dannemeyer, who was in his time one of the most conservative members of Congress. This is from a 1990 L.A. Times article:
The House Energy and Commerce Committee had just announced a hard-won compromise on landmark clean air legislation. Dannemeyer ... was the first to offer an amendment.

If Congress were going to clean up the nation's air, Dannemeyer told his colleagues, it ought to go a step further and clean up the nation's airwaves. The six-term congressman then offered language to establish "airwave emission standards" and $50-million penalties to ensure that television stations do not broadcast pornographic programs....

The exercise in political theater came as no surprise to those who have seen Dannemeyer take the floor of the House of Representatives to lash out at abortion, moral relativism, the decline of the American greenback, what he says is the destructive influence of pornography, what he sees as the increasing power of homosexual activists, what he considers the politicization of the AIDS epidemic, and, most recently, Nelson Mandela....

In a speech on the House floor the day before Mandela addressed a rare joint session of Congress, Dannemeyer--infuriating many people--denounced the South African black nationalist, who was recently freed after spending 27 years in a South African prison, as an unrepentant terrorist and communist.

"Nelson Mandela is no Martin Luther King," Dannemeyer said. "He is more like H. Rap Brown or Willie Horton." ...

In a subsequent speech, Dannemeyer asked: "What is the difference between Nelson Mandela and Ethel and Julius Rosenberg," the Americans executed in 1953 for passing atomic secrets to the Soviet Union?

"Mandela pleaded guilty."
Seven years Barbre worked for this guy.

So, no, the water wasters aren't a gang of lefties.

  1. Are you saying that there are right wing bloggers who think that non-compliance with government mandated water rationing is a bad thing? That's good news.

I read the article too. One of the rich guys quoted said that once the water goes through his meter, he owns it. Is Mr. Breitbart Clone Blogger saying that's a bad thing to say? Is parching a beautiful lawn for the greater good, the right thing for a government to do to a citizen during a draught, Mr. Breitbart Clone? Of course it is.

And, what would John Galt do, Mr. Breitbart Clone Blogger? He would gladly comply, of course.

Because conserving water is a Conservative thing to do. It's only natural for Conservatives to want to conserve things.

Now, let's apply that concept in other ways...

  2. Conservative POV:

You go and do YOUR share.
    I don't want to share.

Conservatives never outgrow their "Terrible Two's (or Three's)."

  3. But Victor, The funny thing about this post is that conservatives who disagree with the POV, must contort said POV into a Liberal position in order for their synapses to continue firing!
