Raw Story reports:
Oklahoma restaurant won’t serve 'freaks,' 'f*ggots,' the disabled and welfare recipientsI'm sure the merciless jackboot of political correctness is about to crush Gary James now.
A restaurant outside of Oklahoma City is facing criticism after its outspoken owner made a series of inflammatory comments after one of his former customers, who is disabled, complained that he'd been banned from the establishment.
Matt Gard claims that the owner of Gary's Chicaros restaurant, Gary James, banned him from the restaurant because of his wheelchair....
Gard claims that's just "a weak excuse," and that James's real problem with him is that he's on disability.
James doesn't deny that he thinks some people shouldn't patronize his restaurant. "Well if you work, you own a business, pay your taxes, you’re more than welcome here," he told KFOR. "If you're on welfare, stay at home and spend my money, there. I don’t deal with these people walking down the street with no jobs on welfare."
... James told KFOR that he’s owned Gary’s Chicaros for 44 years, so he "think[s] I can spot a freak or a f*ggot."
The restaurant's official t-shirt makes it clear that a "f*ggot" isn't welcome in James's establishment. It features that word, the N-word, and threatens violence against Muslims, Democrats, and members of many minority groups....
Right? Isn't that what happens to everyone in America who dares to talk this way, according to our right-wing friends? Doesn't the left just mercilessly rain consequences down on such people until their lives are utterly ruined? Isn't it inevitable that Gary James will be boycotted until his business fails, found guilty of discrimination, harassed by the IRS, successfully sued and forced into bankruptcy?
Well, here's the thing: there were stories just like this about Gary James four years ago, back when he was (God help us) running for local office:
Ward 4 Enid City Commis-sion candidate Gary James is aware of stories circulating about how he has refused service to some customers at his Chicaro Club, but he defends himself against accusations he is racist. That story was picked up by Towleroad -- a well-known gay blog! Part of the Gay Mafia!
James reportedly has asked black people and people he believes are homosexual to leave his establishment.
James said he has asked people to leave the bar, but it is not based on race or sexual orientation. However, he does have some strong words to describe those he won't allow in his establishment, calling them "trash" and "faggots."
"If a racist is someone who doesn't like unproductive trash, then it's true. I'm talking about white, black, brown or yellow. I don't like unproductive people," James said Monday. "People who know me, know better."
... "I don't like girlie men. I'm not fond of men with all kinds of metal in their face," he said. "My customers don't want them around, and I don't want them around. I don't consider that racist. I have black friends, but they are productive. Guys who come in with their britches down to their knees won't get served in my place."
... "I have one rule that does away with 95 percent of the trash," James said. "If they are rude enough to wear a hat inside a building, I don't want them here. Most of those little faggots have their hats on backwards." ...
And what happened to Gary James as a result? Nothing. Oh, sure, he lost that election for city commission. (A candidate named Drew Ritchie won the seat.) But he's still in business. He's still making hateful statements, four years later. He's selling hateful T-shirts. The worst thing he's had to endure is a series of negative comments on Facebook and Yelp and Google+. And, in fact, back in '09 a local website speculated that James spread the discrimination story himself, just to drum up business. Maybe that's true, and he's doing it again.
In some parts of America, acting like Gary James might get you in some trouble. But not in many other parts of America -- maybe most parts. And not in America as a whole, if your target market is conservatives. Nothing bad ever happens to Ted Nugent, no matter what nasty things he says. The same goes for Rush Limbaugh and Michael Savage.
If we liberals are fascists, we're the most incompetent fascists ever.
Maybe if a manly pro-business right-winger ever became a fascist, he could show us why fascism is something to be afraid of. But of course that could never happen, since only liberals are fascists.
ReplyDeleteIt's these liberties that the Ron Paul camp want to fight to the (political) death for.
ReplyDeleteJust another manifestation of aggressive martyrdom-seeking by a RW idiot. If they're not being persecuted they'll just keep pushing various buttons till they get the reaction they're looking for, and then they howl about how oppressed they are.
ReplyDeleteNBB,
ReplyDeleteTruer words were never spoken.
Bravo!

ReplyDeleteLet's see: Long, incoherent list of people who he "can't deal with." Check.
ReplyDeleteClaims to have psychic powers. (The ability to divine who is and isn't receiving welfare.) Check.
Carefully offensive t-shirt. Check.
Random rant about the darn gays wearing their darn hats backwards. Check.
Yep. He's looking for a ticket on the WingNut Gravy Train.
At the very least he can expect to have insecure Right Wingers flock to his place. Being allowed to eat will be proof of their Real Americaness and maybe they'll get to see him bounce on of Those People. Har har!
It's a rule of thumb that anyone who says "I don't care if they're white black, brown yellow or purple" and "Some of my best friends are black" and I'm not a racist, but..."
ReplyDeleteIs.
One quibble: I contend that something bad has, in fact, happened to Ted Nugent:
ReplyDeleteHe's Ted Nugent.
