PAULA DEAN IS #1 AT AMAZON

Even though it won't be published until October, Paula Deen's New Testament: 250 Favorite Recipes, All Lightened Up is#1 at Amazon:

I suppose we shouldn't be surprised. Maybe America is a decent enough country that a poll would show more people disapproving of Paula Deen than approving of her, but bestseller lists survey the yeas and not the nays. The people rallying around Deen are really inclined to rally around her now, because "political correctness," and because she represents heartland culinary values, as opposed to the values of those evil elitists in big Northeast cities (even though this book is apparently about ratcheting down the unhealthiness a wee bit). Or it may be the Michael Jackson syndrome: people derive so much pleasure from her that they can't bear to quit her no matter what we find out about her. Disheartening.

  1. Butter and fatback, are cocaine and heroin, for Crackers.

And while I'd be curious to see what the bulk-buy rate is, now that she's become a Reich Wing Christianista martyr to the white supremacists cause - I wouldn't want to look at the bulk of the individuals, buying her book.

Besides, my eyes don't have wide-angle lenses.

  2. Paula is a distraction. She's not worth ten minutes of anybody's time, most especially anybody's air time. The hours, and hours – and hours – of news time devoted to her are hours not spent on bad Supreme Court decisions, disenfranchisement of voters, the deflection of IRS attempts to go after tax-cheating political organization disguised as charities, or — well, pick your own national tragedy.

Let's get on with it. Or if we can't get on with it, let's at least be more insane about it. Should Paul be burned at the stake as a witch? And if so, should Sarah Palin and Michele Bachman be burned with her? Debate.

    Very crankily yours,

  3. NY Crank,
I luv's ya, but there's nothing to debate.

Never make real martyrs out of people who, along with their devoted followers, already think of themselves as political martyrs.
