Please tell me the wingers aren't going to respond to this with their usual righteous indignation:
The two men arrested last night in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings drive a car with the licence plate that reads: 'Terrorista #1'
The students, named be neighbours by their first names Azmat and Diaz, drive a black BMW 330XI with the personalised plate....
They are thought to be from Kazakhstan and had not been seen since the bombings until last night when their ground floor apartment in New Bedford, MA, was raided by a dozen FBI agents at gunpoint....
Yes, because if you actually were a terrorist, you'd want to advertise it, right? Please, wingers, try to restrain yourselves. This is a joke that's now turned out not to be a joke. Refrain from your usual harrumphing.
And no, I don't want to hear that it's in bad taste. I'm Italian-American, and an Italian-American friend had a "MAFIA STAFF CAR" bumper sticker when we were in high school. Isn't that equally in bad taste? Doesn't the Mafia have a history of killing people? But we don't think twice about that. It's a joke. You can still buy the bumper stickers today. You can slap them on your car and drive to Godfather's Pizza.
Are your knickers in a twist because someone would use the phrase "Terrorista #1" in a lighthearted way? Tell it to this teenage girl from Argentina whose Twitter name is Terrorista #1. And here's a photographer who gave the title "Terrorista Numero 1" to a photo of a cat in a tree.
Oh, and you do recall that "Con los terroristas" are the first words of the song every idiot in America has danced to on YouTube, Baauer's "Harlem Shake," courtesy of a sample from reggaeton artist Hector "El Father" Delgado, right?
Oh, and let's not forget that the car also had "a sticker on the back which reads: 'F*** you, you f****** f****'." I'm pretty sure that's not from the collected writing of Sayyid Qutb.
*****
AND: Charles Johnson reminds us that the two men (and one woman) were questioned, not arrested. It's been reported elsewhere that they "are believed to be fellow students or roommates of [Dzhokar] Tsarnaev."
Charles Johnson also wants you to forget that a "tiny minority of Muslims suffer from "sudden jihad syndrome" from time to time.
ReplyDeleteIf it wasn't for 'harumphing,' whining, screeching, scolding, kvetching, moralizing, and pining for the 'good old days,' our Conservatives would sit there, mute.
ReplyDeleteThe plate also says "UMass Dartmouth" at the top, in the same typeface.
ReplyDeleteMust be a reference to a madrassa/jihadi training camp or something.
Perhaps because I'm older I know that the Good ole Days weren't good, just ole. Violent crime per head per capita was actually more!
ReplyDeleteGood times tend to be in the mind of the beholder and limited to certain often fantasified remembrances and their personal circumstances.
All the evils (abortions, non believers, adultery, drugs, homelessness, homosexuality, corruption) in or about the same percentages existed then. All that has changed is the communications technology. Oh yes the difference between rich and middle class was less...but one good side Hypocrisy today is less. Less people are pretending to be religious, straight or sexually circumspect.
PS
ReplyDeleteSince time immemorial the young and other have tried to shock and differentiate themselves from the Satus Quo.Each in their time were considered evil, harbingers of doom...funnily enough the real threats and obscenities are more often committed by the same generation (relatively) to those who cry foul the loudest.
Lets be clear when was the last time a war started by the young?
Genghis Kahn!
