GUN LOBBYIST DEFINES DEMOCRATS AS PREY

Heard on NPR this morning, in a story about President Obama's trip to Colorado to Colorado today to advocate for gun control:
... in Colorado, ... Dudley Brown runs an organization called Rocky Mountain Gun Owners....

Brown complains universal background checks are just a step towards identifying gun owners so the government can seize their weapons, and he calls the 15-bullet limit on ammunition clips arbitrary. He's promising political payback in next year's election that could cost Colorado Democrats their majorities.

"I liken it to the proverbial hunting season," Brown says. "We tell gun owners, there's a time to hunt deer. And the next election is the time to hunt Democrats."
Lovely.

Dudley Brown, by the way, is also the executive director of a group called the National Association for Gun Rights (NAGR). Politico notes today that NAGR, which is backed by Rand Paul, frequently attacks Republican officeholders, and even the NRA, for not being right-wing enough:
Sen. Rand Paul, the tea party favorite and possible 2016 presidential candidate, is raising money for a conservative gun rights group that's targeting fellow Republicans, including House Majority Leader Eric Cantor....

The Kentucky Republican has lent his name to fundraising pitches for the National Association for Gun Rights, a group that says the National Rifle Association is too willing to compromise on gun rights.

The group has blitzed the districts of Virginia Republicans Cantor and Rep. Scott Rigell with $50,000 worth of TV and radio ads accusing them of helping President Barack Obama pass gun control legislation.

Paul has signed emails and letters supporting NAGR efforts primarily against congressional gun control bills and the United Nations small arms treaty for about two years....
Scott Rigell has an NRA A rating. He opposes expanding background checks, and every other Obama gun proposal. But the NAGR ads attacked him for introducing a bill aimed at gun trafficking. The ads claimed this would lead to a national gun registry.

But NAGR appears to think that everything will lead to a national gun registry. The NRA supported concealed carry reciprocity bill: states that allow concealed carry of firearms would automatically have to recognize concealed carry permits from any other state. It seems to me that that would just give the state with the most porous gun laws the right to determine standards for concealed carry permits nationwide -- but NAGR said it would lead to gun registration.

As I've Googled around, I've noticed that a lot of gun lovers are suspicious of NAGR. Paulbots, however, seem to like the group.

But NAGR is obviously pushing the gun Overton window even further to the right, if such a thing is possible.

And as I said, the head guy at NAGR is encouraging gun owners to pick off Democrats like deer.

  1. Ok, but does the NAGR (hmm... kinda close to Ni... oh, never mind...) have a magazine?

And has that magazine ever topped the NRA's great "Freedom Fisting" cover?

And what could possibly top that?

A heavily armed gerbil with a headlamp, wearing a sash that said, "Libery!", and carrying breadcrumbs and a climbing rope for the trip back out?

I suspect that most gun nuts are born, and not made.
That, usually, you're a nut BEFORE you start getting guns, rather than a person with guns who goes nuts.
