THE NEXT GOP SUPREME COURT APPOINTEE? JUDGE TOM HEAD'S YEARS OF OBAMA-HATE

So right-wingers think there are some good reasons to raise taxes. Who knew?
Tom Head, a county judge in Lubbock, Texas, plunged far out into the periphery of anti-President Barack Obama conspiracy theories on Monday, pushing a particularly outrageous one as justification for a tax increase in the county.

Head told FOX34 that Lubbock's law enforcement needed extra tax dollars in order to be prepared for a full-scale uprising....

"He's going to try to hand over the sovereignty of the United States to the U.N., and what is going to happen when that happens?" Head asked. "I'm thinking the worst. Civil unrest, civil disobedience, civil war maybe. And we're not just talking a few riots here and demonstrations, we're talking Lexington, Concord, take up arms and get rid of the guy." ...

"Now what's going to happen if we do that, if the public decides to do that? He's going to send in U.N. troops. I don't want 'em in Lubbock County. OK. So I'm going to stand in front of their armored personnel carrier and say, 'You're not coming in here,'" the judge said. "And the sheriff, I've already asked him, I said, 'You gonna back me?' He said, 'Yeah, I'll back you.' Well, I don't want a bunch of rookies back there. I want trained, equipped, seasoned veteran officers to back me." ...

****

This isn't Head's first swim in the fetid swamps of Obama-hate. It may not even be his most outrageous. There was also this, in 2009:
A judge who posted arrest photos of people wearing Barack Obama T-shirts on a courthouse bulletin board has apologized to those who were offended by the racial tone of the display.

Lubbock County Judge Tom Head sent a statement Friday to the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal in which he said he "never meant any racial disrespect."

The display included arrest photos of nine people wearing Obama shirts, seven of them black men. With the photos were printouts critical of Obama supporters and suggesting that backers of former Republican presidents generally don't get arrested.
Via Jonathan Turley, here's the photo display:

Go here to read about some of the judge's other bulletin board displays at the time (though the photos are gone, alas). Apparently, the apocalypticism isn't new -- and, of course, he's a birther:
And last but not least, three pages of hardcore birther crap. This posting begins, "Dear Christian Friend and Follower of Truth," and leads the reader through the case for an apocalyptic new American civil war -- "spiritual warfare" -- based on the citizenship status of our President....
Oh, and will it surprise you that the readers of Fox Nation have responded to the judge's current outburst by describing it as "inspiring"?

  1. Honest Abe was wrong. Let's admit it.

    It's time for a divorce.

We in the rational parts of the nation can't stay married to fucking crazy people who want to kill us much longer.

And they've proven by their actions over the last 4 years, that they'll gladly commit a murder-suicide, as long as we're dead in the end.

So, it's either some form of semi-amicable divorce, or both sied will be sitting at the dinner table looking at one another, guns loaded, drawn and aimed, waiting for the other side to flinch or start to nod off.

    D-I-V-O-R-C-E!

  2. Cesspool politics mainstreamed by the international multi-billionaire, Rupert Murdoch, and a host of other evil, stupid plutocrats.

The cesspool politics has been here, in America, all my life.

It killed both Kennedys and MLK, too.

The crowning achievement of "movement conservatism" has been to give it total control of the Republican Party and terrifying power over the nation.

  3. Welcome to my world, folks. Lubbock's just 200 empty west Texas miles from me; I go there 2-3 times a year to see a buddy, a fellow refugee from and observer of the local madness(es). You'd be amazed at the looks you can get in Lubbock with nothing more radical than an Obama-Biden bumper sticker.

What cracks me up about this most is the insane self-importance. I mean, if the entire western half of Texas were to erupt in a crackpot rebellion tomorrow, most of the country would simply yawn and say "good riddance" - if any attention was paid at all.
