ZIMMERMAN LIES TO GET IN A DEFENSE TALKING POINT IMMEDIATELY AFTER APOLOGIZING
At his bond hearing today, George Zimmerman apologized to the family of Trayvon Martin -- and then lied right after that, in order to insinuate a talking point into the discussion of his case (a discussion that, needless to say, includes his future jurors):
"I wanted to say I am sorry for the loss of your son," he said to the parents, who attended the hearing in the central Florida city of Sanford, where the shooting took place. "I did not know how old he was. I thought he was a little bit younger than I am, and I did not know if he was armed or not."
As Professor Darren Hutchinson writes at Dissenting Justice:
... is Zimmerman telling the truth? Zimmerman is 28. Today he said he thought Martin was just a bit younger than he. But during a 911 call made moments before Martin's death, Zimmerman said he believed that Martin was in his late-teens.
Right. From the transcript:
Dispatcher: How old would you say he looks?
Zimmerman: He's got button on his shirt, late teens.
Dispatcher: Late teens ok.
Much has been made of the fact that Trayvon Martin's youth was just a kid. You expect Zimmerman to lie, but it takes real shamelessness to lie immediately after appearing to show remorse. At least put a little distance between the tears and the lies, George, even if the tears are of the crocodile variety.
A bit more coaching seems needed. No doubt counsel will see to it, or try to - GZ may not be the most apt pupil.
ReplyDeleteSmells like malpractice to me.
ReplyDeleteThere wasn't a lie out of Zimmerman's mouth that wasn't choreographed by his mouthpiece.
This is cross-examination gold for the prosecution.
