SHE'S ONLY A BIRD IN A GILDED CAGE

TBogg flags this, from the Palm Beach Daily News on Saturday:

Yes, that was First Lady hopeful Ann Romney on Worth Avenue Saturday, looking very Palm Beach-y in her hot pink tunic and jeans with her shoulder-length blond hair. The only thing missing was the Helga Wagner necklace.

Mitt's missus spent four hours with Alfred Fiandaca, her old pal from Boston who closed the store for her so she could shop in peace without any worries about paparazzi grabbing a shot of her in the fitting room. Trying on a little something to wear to tonight's big dinner at Darlene and Jerry Jordan's house, perhaps? When they’re paying 50k a couple, a lady wants to look good.

The private shopping went well for the wife of the presumptive candidate....

That would be this Alfred Fiandaca:

"In the early 1960s, I dressed women who were 'possessions,'" recalled Alfred Fiandaca in a recent interview. "My women wore my clothes as the flags of their husbands' wealth, as if to say: "'This is my wife. Look at her. This is how wealthy I am.'"

American fashion designer Anne Fogarty's 1959 book, Wife-Dressing, confirms Fiandaca's recollection. Fogarty, known for her extremely fitted bodices and tight waists, cautioned women to remember that "it's your husband for whom you are dressing." Not only would dressing well please one's husband, but also a wife's appearance could help his career, "especially when promotions to high-echelon jobs are in the offing."

Political wife dressing became a Fiandaca specialty....

Sounds as if some things never change.

  2. Oh, aren't you clever -- you periodically circle back to me and say, "Hey, let me troll Steve M. for a few days. That will contribute to a life well lived!" And you've decided to play the right's favorite game recently, "I'm Rubber, You're Glue," specifically on racism. And you think it's supposed to give me pause because you're black and I'm not.

But you're just another winger reciting winger talking points. It's as if they're not coming from you as a human being at all -- you're all just part of a right-wing Borg reciting the same lines with no individual will.

In a way, it makes sense that you guys nominated Romney -- he has no humanity and is just a cyborg who recites Fox News talking points, but that's basically what the rest of you have all become, isn't it?
