MEANWHILE, OVER IN THE PARALLEL UNIVERSE...

I know I care about this a lot more than you do, but I'd like to point out that none of the stories most of us have been paying attention to in recent days -- Komen and Planned Parenthood, Romney's "truly poor" remark, the Trump endorsement, the job numbers -- have been a big deal over at Fox Nation. Over there, the only story that matters is Fast and Furious. This is the lead story at Fox Nation now, as it has been for most of the day; prior to that, this was the lead story for most of yesterday.

I've got to say that I'm not sure why the right-wing noise machine is failing to make Fast and Furious a big deal in the country at large. I know Fast and Furious isn't getting much coverage outside of Fox and talk radio, but neither did the ACORN and "Ground Zero mosque" stories at first. Is the GOP Wurlitzer starting to creak?

Maybe it's that, which would be nice. Or maybe this is specific to Fast and Furious.

I think part of the problem is that the message of the righties on F&F is that the Obama White House didn't do a good enough job controlling guns. Hunh? Aren't you righties always telling us that Obama has both the desire to control all guns and totalitarian superpowers that allow him to disarm the masses whenever he sees fit? Isn't your message here just the opposite?

And aren't you the ones who say that allowing a country to become awash in guns is always a good thing? So if the administration let a bunch of guns into Mexico, shouldn't that have been a positive development -- by your usual standards?

Sorry, guys, it's kind of a muddled message.

  1. There's also the problem that if the feds hadn't arranged the sales for tracking purposes, somebody else would have sold guns to the crooks.

  2. If I remember right, F&F was also started under Little Boots - as all great national disasters have.

They're doing their best to try to erase that, and blame it on Obama - as they do with the deficit, and the wars.

And if I remember right, F&F was sort of a standard procedure setup - put traceable guns in the hands of the bad guys and follow it as the guns go up the chain. The problem was there was blowback and a law enforcement officer was killed by one of the guns. Do I have that right?

So what is it the Repubs are saying went wrong? Putting guns out there? I thought they liked that.

Giving bad things to bad guys in order to bust the bad guys? They do this all the time in drug deals, terrorism plots, hired hitmen.

Are they saying this strategy should totally stop? But, but, what about the War on Terra?

  4. They lost track of the guns which evidently wasn't supposed to happen. Much the same thing happened under Bush (without the dead US agents) which is why this attempt to tar the Obama administration with a scandal and online petitions to fire Holder didn't catch fire last time and aren't now.
