NOT JUST PIG-IGNORANT BUT THE CAUSE OF PIG-IGNORANCE IN OTHERS

One of the many reasons to hate the right is the fondness right-wingers have for ginning up anger in the populace in this way:

GOLDEN HOOKAH WINNER: Dope-Smoking, Menstruating Monkey Study Got $3.6 Million in Tax Dollars

The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), a division of the federal government's National Institutes of Health (NIH), has spent $3,634,807 over the past decade funding research that involves getting monkeys to smoke and drink drugs such as PCP, methamphetamine (METH), heroin, and cocaine and then studying their behavior, including during different phases of the female monkeys’ menstrual cycles.

The study also uses "interventions" as "treatment models" for monkeys who have been taught to use drugs.

NIDA wins CNSNews.com's "What Were They Smoking Award" -- symbolized by The Golden Hookah... -- for sponsoring an outrageous government spending program that sends taxpayer dollars up in smoke....

Har har har! Menstruating monkeys on dope!

Yes it's hilarious, because, y'know, God forbid we should pursue a line of research that might actually improve the effectiveness of drug treatment. If a possible approach might remind someone of a Jay Leno joke, much better to avoid it, right? Even if pursuing it might save lives and repair families?

This A-list, Fox- and Breitbart-linked right-wing blog is appalled. So is this A-list righty blog. This guy, whose work has appeared in The Wall Street Journal and Investors Business Daily, denounces the study under the title "Stealing You Blind: Drugging Monkeys on Your Dime."

"Stealing you blind"? Excuse me, but $3,634,807 is barely more than a penny per U.S. citizen. That's how much tax money has been spent on this research over ten years.

Are there people in this country who are "stealing us blind"? Yeah, but they're in wingtips, not lab coats.

****

(And apologies for the post title. Pigs, unlike right-wingers, are actually rather intelligent.)
