WELL, IF WE'RE GOING TO GO THERE, LUCIANNE...

Some right-wing reactions to the killing of Osama bin Laden have been gracious; others, not so much. Here's one from Lucianne Goldberg and the crew at Lucianne.com (click to enlarge):

Well, if we're going to get into a he-man competition based on what presidents themselves do while people with guns are closing in on wanted terrorists and tyrants, let's talk about what George W. Bush was doing as Saddam Hussein was being hunted down.

Saddam was captured on Saturday, December 13, 2003. His capture came after a series of intelligence breakthroughs and interrogations led to the questioning of an aide to Saddam -- Muhammad Ibrahim. The interrogation of Ibrahim, which revealed Saddam's whereabouts, took place a day before Saddam's capture -- on December 12, 2003.

Know what was going on in Bush World on December 12, 2003? This:

The presidential terrier, Barney, returned on Friday for his second annual dog's-eye view of the White House Christmas decorations in ''Barney Cam II: Barney Reloaded,'' a 5 1/2-minute display of President Bush and his most senior advisers hamming it up on the White House Web site.

The video, which features acting performances by Andrew H. Card Jr., the White House chief of staff, and Karl Rove, the president's political adviser, appears designed for the under-7 set. But it is notable for adults in that it captures the president of the United States talking to his 3-year-old Scottish terrier as if he were a small child. (Mr. Bush has referred to Barney as ''the son I never had'' in political speeches.)

''Everybody's looking for you, and you're supposed to be working, and here you are playing,'' Mr. Bush warbles to Barney during a romp on the White House lawn after a snowfall last weekend.

The president then continues talking to Barney in a diminutive, affectionate voice....

So really, Lucianne, you don't want to go there.
