NON-ADMIRERS' NON-SUPPORT IS A NON-STORY

This Reuters story is ridiculous:

Top Jewish Americans ponder support for Obama

Some prominent Jewish Americans are rethinking their support for President Barack Obama's 2012 re-election bid after he effectively called on Israel to give back territory it has occupied since 1967 to Palestinians....

So who are these supporters? The Reuters story names precisely two. The first is former New York mayor Ed Koch:

"He has in effect sought to reduce Israel's negotiation power and I condemn him for that," former New York Mayor Ed Koch told Reuters.

Koch said he might not campaign or vote for Obama if Republicans nominate a pro-Israel candidate who offers an alternative to recent austere budgetary measures backed by Republicans in Congress.

Omigod! Ed Koch, not vote for a Democrat for president? Well, it wouldn't be the first time -- in 2004, he not only endorsed George W. Bush, he campaigned with Dick Cheney in Florida and said he "would give my life" to protect Cheney. For 2008, he was initially a Hillary Clinton supporter -- he backed her as far back as 2005. In the spring of 2008 he was still backing Clinton's then-futile campaign, and he proclaimed that Obama would be the likely nominee -- but, in the general election, "he will lose." Wow, there's a loyal Democrat, hunh? Yes, Koch ultimately endorsed Obama, but his stated reason for doing so was that he found Sarah Palin "scary." So this response is not exactly a surprise.

Who else is disillusioned, according to Reuters? This guy:

"I have spoken to a lot of people in the last couple of days -- former supporters -- who are very upset and feel alienated," billionaire real estate developer and publisher Mortimer Zuckerman said....

Zuckerman backed Obama during his 2008 presidential run and the newspaper he owns, the New York Daily News, endorsed the president.

So you think it's this week's speech that disillusioned him? Mort Zuckerman, who wrote columns last year titled "World Sees Obama as Incompetent and Amateur" and "Obama Is Barely Treading Water"? Yeah, right -- this guy had Obama's back until just this week.

Oh, who else is quoted saying something negative? This guy:

...Morton Klein, president of the Zionist Organization of America, wrote an open letter to the American Israeli Public Affairs Committee, or AIPAC, calling on it to cancel a scheduled address by Obama to the lobby group on Sunday.

Morton Klein? A guy who doesn't even believe in a two-state solution, which puts him to the right of George W. Bush, never mind Barack Obama? A guy who once gave an award to John Hagee, the crazy right-wing preacher who think his anti-Semitism is philo-Semitism? A guy who said Obama "may become the most hostile president to Israel ever" -- in 2009?

These are either fair-weather friends or enemies. If they're not in Obama's camp, it's no surprise (and not news).

... Oh, and it looks as if that AIPAC speech went better than expected.
