THE TELEVISED WILL NOT BE REVOLUTION

It seems to me that, in relation to the American left, Barack Obama is approaching the position of Lyndon Johnson in 1968. I know Obama fully intends to run for reelection, but a lot of lefties clearly want him to drop out, like LBJ.

The difference is that the issue that drove LBJ out of the race is 1968 is an issue on which lefties had demonstrated, rioted, sat in, and generally raised hell. In fact, the run-up to LBJ's withdrawal looked a bit like London yesterday:

Central London has been rocked by large and at times violent student protests over the government's decision to triple university fees.

Prince Charles and his wife Camilla were caught up in the demonstrations. Their car was pelted with paint and had one of its windows cracked as the Royal couple made their way towards a theatre....

That's what going on there as a result of disgust with government leaders. This is what's going on here:

OK, that's not a breaking news video -- but as students riot in London, this is who's stepping up in America to respond to the failures of the Obama administration:

Former Alaska Senator and 2008 Democratic presidential candidate Mike Gravel told The Daily Caller in an exclusive interview that he is mulling a primary challenge to President Barack Obama in 2012.

In an e-mail exchange arranged by his daughter, TheDC asked Gravel if he was considering a run for president in 2012 and if he is specifically considering a primary challenge to President Obama. He replied, "Both are possible."

... Gravel, who served in the Senate from 1969 to 1980, also stated that he believes that members of the U.S. government "may certainly have participated with the obviously known perpetrators" of the September 11th attacks. "Obviously an act that has triggered three wars, Afghan, Iraqi and the continuing War on Terror, should be extensively investigated", Gravel continued, "which was not done and which the government avoids addressing." ...

Bloody hell.

Where are the demonstrators? Where are the leaders? What are people on the left doing?

Oh, yeah, right -- they're staring at screens. They're reading Kos and DU and FDL and HuffPo. They're watching Rachel and Keith. They're blogging and commenting and tweeting.

I'm no better. In fact, I'm the worst. I'm not out there. And I'm enabling screen-staring several times a day.

But if we hate Barack Obama now -- oh and, yeah, the Republicans too -- maybe we need to close our laptops and let these guys know in a real-world way.

And maybe -- just maybe -- there's a cause-and-effect relationship between the fact that we haven't done anything like this and the fact that we keep getting screwed.
