FORGETTING THE IRONCLAD RULE: IOKIYAR

Yes, under some circumstances it's possible to pull a stunt like this without harming your own side:

Dem group launches 'F*ck Tea' campaign

... the Agenda Project, a new, progressive group with roots in New York's fundraising scene and a goal of strengthening the progressive movement, has launched the "F.*.c.k. Tea project," which is aimed, the group's founder Erica Payne wrote in an e-mail this morning, "to dismiss the Tea Party and promote the progressive cause." ...

What are the proper circumstances? Well, it helps if you're a Republican, of course. Ideally, you'll be a veteran Republican insider who's good copy, someone the establishment press has known for years and regards as "colorful" and "legendary," and perhaps a little bit dangerous.

In other words, if you're someone like Roger Stone, you can get away with starting a Democrat-bashing organization the name of which (at least in acronym form) is a vulgar and sexist.

One of these is acceptable. One is not.

When Stone launched Citizens United Not Timid, the entire Village just harrumphed, expressed a bit of faux-outrage -- and then sat back to see what would be the next "colorful" stunt in Stone's "legendary" career. (There certainly wasn't a backlash strong enough to get Hillary nominated.)

But no Democrat can get away with anything like that. I'm not saying that's fair. It's just the way it is. The people at the Agenda Project should know better.
