FUN WITH ANALOGIES

From a New York Times article about the very different approaches to illegal immigration in Arizona and New Mexico:

"If a burglar breaks into your home, do you serve him dinner? That is pretty much what they do there with illegals," said State Representative John Kavanagh of Arizona, a Republican.

I can't speak for New Mexico specifically, but in general, I think the attitude of a lot of Americans is this: If a guy and his wife break into your home, then offer to fix the roof, clean the gutters, add a patio, and change the baby's diaper, all for less than minimum wage, you may not serve them dinner, but at midday you might tell them to take a break, and you might even offer to fix them a sandwich.
