THE PROBLEMS OF TWO HILLS OF BEANS DON'T AMOUNT TO A HILL OF BEANS IN THIS CRAZY WORLD

I expected the new Carrie Prejean book to find a welcome audience on the right, but right now it's mired at #378 on the Amazon charts, the morning after its release. Sean Hannity's "exclusive" interview with Prejean last night doesn't seem to have been much help.



I think I understand. There's just so much apocalypse out there for right-wingers -- health-care reform is the Holocaust, the Copenhagen climate change treaty will destroy America's national sovereignty, and, according to Sarah Palin, there's a conspiracy to inflict forcible atheism on our money. And don't get me started about Fort Hood -- have you read Dick Morris?

Poor Carrie -- hers is the kind of grievance that would have put her at the top of the wingnut victim charts in normal times, but these are not normal times. Merely being insulted by sneering liberal urbanites is not enough; it doesn't make you part of the cataclysm.

Oh, sure, Hannity does try to put Prejean's story in a larger context:

HANNITY: You think this is related -- look how they attack Governor Palin, look at how they attack Michelle Bachmann and Michelle Malkin and Ann Coulter -- do you think conservative women are, are targeted because of their views?

PREJEAN: Absolutely.

Yeah, and so what? There are tea parties now -- every wingnut gets to be brutally targeted by sneering liberals!

If Prejean and Hannity had managed to link her story to some sinister freedom-destroying conspiracy -- if, say, they alleged that her sex tape surfaced because only she stood in the way of a Donald Trump global-finance conspiracy to abolished the U.S. dollar and replace it with a one-world currency -- then her book would be in the top five. But alas, her story isn't big enough for these times.

Maybe she should compare Perez Hilton to Hitler.
