WOULD McCAIN'S INAUGURAL ADDRESS FEATURE A DRUMMER PLAYING RIMSHOTS?

I said a few months ago that John McCain comes off like Don Rickles -- a little bullet-headed fireplug of a guy who specializes in insult jokes. Hell, the two of them even look alike:



I didn't expect that, like Rickles, McCain would construct an entire act -- er, campaign -- based on nothing but insult jokes.

But here we are. Every bit of McCain's campaign seems as if it's building up to a rimshot.

Hey, Obama and the press -- get a room! (Ta-da BOOM!)

Paris and Britney! (Ta-da BOOM!)

Hasselhoff! Charlton Heston! Tire gauges! (Ta-da BOOM! Ta-da BOOM! Ta-da BOOM!)

Why isn't this the issue?

We know what it's like to have a clown for president -- we've had one for eight years. Barack Obama should talk about this. Barack Obama should make ads about this.

We don't need an insult comic for president. We need a grown-up.
