CLINTON: THE WAY TO BEAT McCAIN IS TO KEEP FIGHTING EACH OTHER

Hillary Clinton at a Democratic forum in Kentucky last night:

"The only way we can have a Democrat in that White House come next January is to win in November, and we cannot win unless we can win 270 electoral votes," she said.

Yup -- and you know how a Democrat might actually win those votes? By actually campaigning to beat the Republican. Not by being involved in a slugfest against a fellow Democrat for four more months.

Clinton herself noted she was the only candidate to come, saying it was important "because Kentucky always picks the president."

You know what? A Democrat is not going to win Kentucky this year. Yes, Bill Clinton won the state in 1992 and 1996 -- barely, and with less than 46% of the vote each time in a three-way race. But in 2000 -- when Al Gore actually won the popular vote, and should have won Florida and thus the election -- he lost Kentucky by 15 points, and he was from a state that borders Kentucky. And in 2004, Kerry lost the state by 20 points.

Sorry, Clintonites -- Kentucky isn't coming back to the Democrats. Not anytime soon. To win this year, a Democrat is going to have to do without Kentucky, and no pander is going to change that fact.
