10,000

I was sitting in a motel room late Saturday afternoon disappointingly watching the returns from Nevada and eventually as CNN called the caucus for Hillary. What the hell happened? Didn't Obama have the advantage of the Culinary Unions endorsement and the recent court ruling upholding the right of the Democratic Party to hold caucuses on the Vegas strip?

Then I noticed the actual vote totals and thought something must be wrong. I'm still trying to track down the popular vote counts (apparently Democrats only report the delegates), but by Saturday night, with nearly all precincts reporting, it appeared that only about 10,000 Democrats voted in the caucuses, while about 40, 000 Republicans came out for the GOP primary.

Compared to the several hundred thousand that came out in Iowa, the relatively few that came out in Nevada reduced my anxiety over seeing Hillary win another one. And in addition, it also now appears that Obama won the delegate count 13-12, despite losing the popular vote.

What a campaign.
