WHY JOHN McCAIN WON'T BE THE GOP PRESIDENTIAL NOMINEE IN 2008

From the article in today's New York Times about the GOP's abandonment of the Republican Senate candidate in Connecticut, Alan Schlesinger:

Senator McCain ... was one of the few who has said he would support the Republican nominee in the race....

His nominal support for the party candidate has more to do with wanting to avoid alienating conservatives, one adviser said, than with actually supporting Mr. Schlesinger.

Could he possibly be more oblivious? Could he possibly believe that this is how you please conservative Republicans? Could he possibly not know that they love Lieberman?

He really doesn't know. And that's why he won't get through the primaries in '08 -- he doesn't speak Wingnut.
