I guess this story got lost over the weekend:

The prison journals of David Berkowitz, the imprisoned "Son of Sam" killer who terrorized New York City for 13 months in 1976 and 1977, will be published in a book this September.

Lawrence Jordan, president of New York City-based Morning Star Communications LLC, said Thursday the company will publish Berkowitz's journal because it is "a testimony to the Christian faith and to how God can change a person." ...

In the book, first reported by the New York Post in Thursday's editions, Berkowitz "discusses how poor choices led to the horrific murders he committed, and how he eventually became a Christian," according to a Web site promoting the book....

Publication "will further the cause of the Kingdom of God on earth," Jordan said....

One victim's mother has what seems to be the sensible reaction:

"Show me one prisoner that doesn't turn to God in jail," said Neyla Moskowitz, whose 20-year-old daughter Stacy was Berkowitz's last victim. "I think it's disgusting....."

Stuff like this sure does happen a lot, doesn't it? Whether it's John DeLorean "becoming a self-described born-again Christian while awaiting trial" or Ted Bundy telling James Dobson that looking at porn made him kill women or Tom DeLay wrapping himself in the sheets from Terri Schiavo's sickbed, Christianity seems to have nudged patriotism out of the #1 slot on the refuge-of-a-scoundrel charts.
