WHY WE'RE NOT DRINKING CHAMPAGNE RIGHT NOW

Blacks made up roughly the same proportion of voters as in 2000, exit polls suggested. About one in 10 voters was black.

In each case, clearly, the numbers were up, but the numbers were up for other segments of the electorate as well.

If Bush is winning, it's because his base also came out in big numbers, also lined up for hours, also felt this was life or death.
