Lots of polls showing the race a dead heat or at least tightening, and the latest is CBS/New York Times.

In both a head-to-head matchup and a three-way race including Ralph Nader, the Republican and Democratic tickets each won the support of 47 percent of registered voters surveyed in the poll.

Last month, Mr. Bush led Mr. Kerry by 50-42 in a two-way race and 50-41 in a three-way race.

The sample isn't GOP-heavy -- it's 29% Republican 34% Democratic, 28% independent, 10% "don't know/not applicable" -- but 35% say they voted for Bush in 2000, as opposed to 29% who say they voted for Gore (the rest didn't vote, voted third party, don't know, or won't say). So is it really representative?
