Remember when progressive Democrats were accused of jackbooted totalitarianism for thuggishly, fascistically (checks notes) running a candidate against Joe Lieberman in a primary? (This was before primarying Republican incumbents became a blow for FREEDOM!!!! during the Tea Party years.)

Why were we so mean to poor Joe? In retrospect, doesn't it seem that we were a tad hotheaded back in the day?

Nope. Here's what Joe's up to now:
Former Sen. Joseph Lieberman (I-CT) discussed the Iran nuclear agreement on Thursday’s Breitbart News Daily, stating that President Donald Trump’s announcement on Tuesday that the United States is pulling out of the deal “took guts.”

“I actually think it’s a great thing,” Lieberman told Breitbart Editor-in-chief Alex Marlow. “I think the president made the correct decision, and, frankly, it’s a courageous decision.”

Lieberman, who now is on the advisory board at the Gatestone Institute and chairman of United Against Nuclear Iran, said former President Barack Obama “basically gave all our leverage away” and only stalled–rather than stopped–Iran’s nuclear weapons program.
Did you think endorsing Obama's 2008 opponent and then killing the public option was enough backstabbing for one lifetime? Nahhh. Of course Lieberman's going to take another cheap shot at the man who buried the hatchet and welcomed him back into the Democratic Party after the '08 votes were counted.

Joe is affiliated with the Gatestone Institute, which you may have read about in a recent NBC News story:
John Bolton, President Donald Trump’s new national security adviser, chaired a nonprofit that has promoted misleading and false anti-Muslim news, some of which was amplified by a Russian troll factory, an NBC News review found.

The group’s authors also appeared on Russian media, including Sputnik and RT News, criticizing mainstream European leaders like French President Emmanuel Macron.

From 2013 until last month, Bolton was chairman of the Gatestone Institute, a New York-based advocacy group that warns of a looming “jihadist takeover” of Europe leading to a “Great White Death.”

The group has published numerous stories and headlines on its website with similar themes. “Germany Confiscating Homes to Use for Migrants,” warned one from May 2017, about a single apartment rental property in Hamburg that had gone into temporary trusteeship. Another from February 2015 claimed the immigrants, for instance Somalis, in Sweden were turning that country into the “Rape Capital of the West.”

... NBC News found at least four instances of known Russian trolls directly re-tweeting from the Gatestone account....

One of the retweeted stories claimed that 500 churches in London have closed while 423 new mosques have opened, which went viral and was picked up by numerous websites including Breitbart News. The fact-checking website said Gatestone used “shoddy research and cherry-picked data” for the story....

... Gatestone has ... received financial backing from Robert and Rebekah Mercer....

In an archived 2017 web page, Rebekah Mercer was listed as a member of the Gatestone Board of Governors.
Those of you who remember the 2006 election, say it with me: But apart from that, Joe's a loyal Democrat!

John McCain may be dying, but Joe Lieberman is still alive and well, and still a terrible person.
